About Me
I have been interested in railways since the summer of 1964, when fishing trips to the River Anker at Polesworth with the old man, but without a rod, and where the WCML crosses the river, led me to take an interest in the passing trains. These consisted of steam, Dutchess and Britannia pacifics, Black 5's Jubilees and 2-6-4T's on the early morn mail. Diesels were Tats, later class 40's, and class 24's, and early electrics. However Photography didn't start until 1978, and not seriously until 1984 ( capturing class 40's, and 25's and Duffs on the S & C). I have always managed with second hand equiptment, old Pentax camera's and lens'. This changed in Jan 2003 when I bought a Nikon F80 and prime lens' and again more recently in July 2005 with a change to Digital, purchasing a Canon 20D, standard 1.4 and 28-135mm Zoom which is 3.5-5.6. Kit later upgraded to Canon 40D and L series Lens. Now that there is not so much to phot, I am retired and have up to date kit, c'est la ve!!! Would you believe I also manage the odd days fishin!!. I must acknowledge the great benefit derived from the GEN posted by the many selfless souls which make ours such a pleasurable pastime, my trusty Blackberry, and the unstinting patience of those who went digital before me and who have provided tremendous support. Good on ye lads.

    20th Nov 2008Maidenhead Interlude
I was attracted by the diversion of 3 Binliner workings from the Aylesbury route for two days ( thanks to FM online for the Heads up). During this period they were diverted via Reading and Oxford to Calvert, so a trip to the east of Reading was arranged. Unlike my visit to Iver last week, there was plenty of traffic and for the most part the weather behaved as well. I'd like to express thanks to "Happy Hippy" for sharing his bridge and for the company and info, freely supplied!

It was decommisioned over August Bank holiday, with eventual removal in the early hours of Saturday 20th September. These images were taken on 17th september.

10th Jun 2008The demise of Lichfield Trent Valley Box
The decommisioning of Lichfield Trent Valley box has occured due to four tracking the stretch between Tamworth and Armitage. Originally constructed by the LNWR Rly to their Type 5 design in 1911, it was taken out of commision in the days running up to Friday 6th June. Actual demolition started on Satuday 7th, but because the possesion only took pace on Saturday, the line being unusally open again on Sunday, its final demise was on Saturday 14th June. Thanks to Panda for the tip.
